Strong Welsh Contingent in Lions Squad

Posted by Daniel Price on

Warren Gatland found himself in the unenviable position of picking a Lions squad to take on the might of New Zealand this summer. Whoever made the final 41-man squad, there was always going to be a few big names missing and Gatland has certainly made some big calls ahead of the Lions tour which starts on the 3rd June in Whangarei. The main talking point is the number of Welsh players selected in the squad.  Wales finished fifth in the 2017 Six Nations yet have 12 players in the squad, compared to 11 Irish and just two from Scotland.  Both Ireland and Scotland finished above Wales in the Six Nations table but Gatland has seemingly ignored form in some of...

England Set for Successive Grand Slam Titles

Posted by Daniel Price on

Eddie Jones may not have had anything good to say about the way Italy approached their Six Nations match at Twickenham but England came through it and look well placed to win their second successive Grand Slam title. You must go back to 1998, to find the last time a country won back-to-back Grand Slam titles and it France who achieved the feat, all be it on the old format of the Five Nations.  If England succeed in winning every match this season, they will become the first country to do this in successive years, since the formation of the Six Nations in 2000. Their toughest remaining fixture comes at Ireland on the 18th March but first, Eddie Jones’ team...

Titanic Clash to Look Forward to in Cardiff

Posted by Daniel Price on

With the first week of Six Nations action producing a great win for Scotland, good performance by France and some excellent tries for Wales, there is plenty to look forward to this weekend. Wales sit top of the 2017 Six Nations table, despite having gone into their match at half-time with Italy trailing 9-3.  The Italians were tremendous in defence but Wales opened things up in the second half and scored three tries to seal the win.  Wales welcome England to the Principality Stadium this Saturday, hoping to put an end to the visitors fine run of form. England struggled to overcome France at Twickenham last week and we forced to come from behind to win the match 19-16.  It...

A New Champion for Formula 1 in 2017

Posted by Daniel Price on

There will be one thing missing from the grid at the start of the 2017 Formula 1 season in March, something which has not happened in the sport for 23 years.  The current Formula 1 champion will not be lining up to defend his title.  The decision of Nico Rosberg to retire from the sport following his victory in 2016, means we are guaranteed a new champion in 2017. Not only will Lewis Hamilton have a new driver alongside him when the season starts in Australia on the 26th March, he will also have a revamped car to get to grips with.  The 2017 Formula 1 season will see wider cards, with bigger tyres and reshaped front and rear wings. ...

England Claim First Win in India

Posted by Daniel Price on

England won the third and final One Day International in India, defeating the hosts by five runs in Kolkata. Although the series was out of reach, having lost the previous two ODI’s, it was a much-needed win for the touring England team, who had struggled up until that point.  England had suffered a 4-0 loss in the Test series and did not want to walk away from the ODI series with another zero to their name.  The win was only England’s fourth in 26 ODI games in India, which puts into perspective the importance of the result, despite the series already being over. Ben Stokes was the man to thank for England, who banished memories of a torrid bowling spell...

Huge Shock at Australian Open

Posted by Daniel Price on

The World Number two and second seed, Novak Djokovic, was left stunned at the Australian Open on Thursday night.  Having been drawn to play Denis Istomin, ranked 117 in the world, Djokovic was expected to make it comfortably through to the third round of the first Grand Slam of the year. However, in what must go down as one of the biggest shocks in the history of tennis, the Serbian lost the match in five sets, to the little-known player from Uzbekistan.  The 30-year-old had a very poor record against top ten players and was granted a wild card to enter the tournament.  This did not stop Istomin from producing the performance of his life, after which he admitted he...
